A SHORT HISTORY
- Switzerland’s largest Cabin Crew Union was founded on 1st June 1971
- Its predecessors, the Swissair Hostesses' and the Swissair Stewards' Associations (founded in 1957), merged to form a powerful organisation to defend and further the rights and interests of all Cabin Crew Members.
- Immediately after the establishment of kapers, negotiations for a new Collective Working Agreement (CWA) with Swissair were initiated. Since then many new and updated CWA have been negotiated successfully, taking into account the ever changing needs of Cabin Crews.
- kapers was the driving force behind the introduction of an officially recognised Swiss Federal Diploma (Eidgenössischer Fachausweis) for Cabin Crew Members that was available for the first time in 1992.
- kapers joined the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), is a member of the Swiss Federation of Trade Unions (SFTU), and cooperates with many unions representing ground personnel at all airports in Switzerland as well as pilots.
- In 1999 the Crossair Flight Attendant Association and kapers joined forces. This turned out to be a crucial advantage after the Swissair grounding, when, as a consequence, the airline’s operation was integrated into its sister company Crossair, out of which emerged Swiss International Air Lines. The united union was able to withstand attempts to separate or discriminate the Cabin Crews of the former companies. During the turmoil of this major crisis of the history of Swiss aviation kapers served as the only source of information and support for the Cabin Crew Members in Switzerland.
- Today kapers supports Cabin Crews of airberlin(Belair), Comlux, Darwin, Easy Jet, Helvetic Airways, Privat Air, and Swiss
